Description
Deepen your knowledge and skills at shop by forging this remarkable tool! The belt axe is a traditional type of trading axe found in New France, and has played an important role in Quebec's history. Used in warfare and for cutting wood and rope, this axe is shorter and lighter than other types of trading axe. At workshop, you'll learn how to forge your own hatchet from A to Z: forging the iron axe head and inserting steel for the edge, sharpening, treating and fitting. You'll go home with your own belt axe and a better knowledge of forging and metalworking!
Level : intermediate
Language: Our courses are mainly taught in French. However, for those who prefer instruction in English, we recommend enrolling in a private or semi-private course.
Prerequisites : to have followed our workshop Introduction to traditional blacksmithing and Introduction to Knifemaking.
Duration: three days, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Minimum age : 18 years old
Cost : 1000 + taxes

Other details: Bring a lunch and a bottle of water; a fridge and microwave will be available. Please wear natural clothing (jeans, cotton, etc.) and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. All tools will be provided on site.
