Refund Policy
Absence and Refund Policy for Training Courses:
Effective: December 1, 2023
Terms and conditions with regard to cancellation, absence and late arrival policies.
Cancellation
Lorsqu’un étudiant signifie sa volonté d'abandonner ou de se retirer d’une formation commencée ou non pour une raison valable (par exemple une blessure), celui-ci devra signifier son intention par courriel aux Forges de Montréal : [email protected].
- Pour tous les cours: Si l’abandon se fait avant une semaine avant le début de la formation, aucuns frais ne seront chargés et un remboursement suivra dans les 10 jours ouvrables après la réception de la demande.
- For a continuous two-day course: If you drop out after the start of workshop, no refund will be made.
- For a course lasting several weeks: If the student withdraws after the course has begun, the cost of the unused classes, less a 10% fee (of the cost of the unused classes), will be refunded within 10 business days of receipt of the request.
- A postponement and rescheduling of the training can only be offered under the following two conditions;
- The request is made 7 business days prior to the start of the training.
- The reason for the postponement is a new medical condition confirmed by a note from a medical specialist.
- Postponement of any training course is the responsibility of the participants, who must communicate their intention to resume training at a date that coincides with the training dates offered. Les Forges reserves the right to refuse postponement if the training date requested by the student is already full, or for safety reasons.
- The participant will have one (1) year following the missed course to express his or her intention to retake the course.
Absence
*L'absence ne s'applique pas aux formations de 2 jours ou moins. L'absence à une session de formation est considérée comme un abandon.
An absence is defined as not attending the class for which the student is registered.
- In the event of a student's absence from a training session, no refunds or rescheduling will be allowed.
- Si l’absence est communiquée aux Forges une semaine avant le début de la formation (la date de début de la formation se définit par la date de la première séance de la formation) aucun frais supplémentaire ne sera chargé et un remboursement suivra dans les 10 jours ouvrables après la réception de la demande.
- If the absence is not communicated to the Forges before the start of workshop (the start date of workshop is defined by the date of the first session of workshop), the workshop fees will not be reimbursed.
- In the case of a multi-session course, if the absence of a session delays the learning process of the student, and the session cannot be made-up within the following class without delaying the group, it is the student's responsibility to contact Les Forges to inquire about the possibility of making up the course. It is preferable that this make-up (in a private class) take place before the next training session. Depending on the level of difficulty of the course, a fee of between $50/hr and $100/hr may be charged.
IMPORTANT: No refunds will be given for any training sessions that are missed.
Lateness
Due to the nature of workshops, no delay will be tolerated. Students should arrive between 10 and 15 minutes before the start of workshop.
- The instructor has the right to deny access to the course to a student who arrives late.
- If the trainers or the Forges team are informed in advance of any delay, and if this does not compromise the workshop course, the delay may be accepted. This decision is at the discretion of the instructor.
- Any delay justified by a medical appointment (with supporting evidence) or due to exceptional weather conditions making travel difficult.
Class material missed due to lateness will be repeated in the next session ONLY if the instructor has time and if it will not interfere with the progress of other students. The instructor is under no obligation to repeat material if doing so would hinder the progress of the course.
Date Change
Pour toute demande de changement de date pour une formation qui n’a pas encore débutée, veuillez nous écrire au plus tard 7 jours ouvrables avant la date de début de la formation à l’adresse [email protected] en mentionnant la nouvelle date souhaitée.
If space is available on the requested date, we will confirm the change.
If there is no space available, you may wait for new training dates to be announced or request a refund.
*Un seul transfert par personne est autorisé. Si un cours a été transféré, il ne peut plus faire l'objet d'un remboursement.
Postponing A Training Course
In the event that a course has to be canceled (instructor's illness, insufficient number of participants, power failure, etc.), Forges de Montréal will contact all participants by e-mail as soon as possible to inform them. A second email will be sent the following week, proposing a new date for the course.
- In the case of a one- or two-day course, students who are unable to attend on the proposed date may either
- Suggest an alternative date that meets the training calendar, or request a refund.
- Request a refund.
- In the event of cancellation during workshops sessions lasting more than 2 days, an additional session will be added after the last scheduled session on the same day (in the case of workshop on Tuesday evenings, an additional Tuesday evening will be offered). If a student is unable to attend workshop on the proposed date, he/she can discuss the possibility of rescheduling with the Forges team. Les Forges does not undertake to accommodate all students' schedules for the resumption of a course, but will do its best to enable everyone to complete workshop.

Gift certificate policy:
Effective: December 1, 2023
Gift certificates
No refunds will be issued for the purchase of gift certificates.
Gift certificates do not have an expiration date.
As the price of training courses may increase from one year to the next, the value of the certificate will be the amount stated on the certificate. If the price of a course has increased, the voucher will be used as a discount and the difference will be paid by the student on the proposed training dates.
Les Forges reserves the right to refuse a postponement request if the workshop date requested by the student is already full, or for safety reasons.
In the case of a workshop course lasting several weeks, the participant will have one (1) year following the missed course to express his/her intention to retake the course.
Objects and tools policy:

Objects and tools
Purchases of t-shirts, tools and forged items are non-refundable.
If the size of your t-shirt does not suit you, it is possible to make an exchange depending on the quantities available. The delivery costs associated with the return of your t-shirt to our shop and its return to your home are at your expense. You are welcome to drop off and pick up your t-shirt atshop to avoid the need for a delivery service.
In case of breakage
If your tool breaks or is broken while being used for its intended purpose*, we will repair it at no extra charge. You are responsible for the delivery costs associated with returning your tool to our shop and sending it back to your home. You are welcome to drop off and pick up your tool atshop to avoid the need for a delivery service.
*Our belt axes are for cutting wood up to 2 inches in diameter. They are not suitable for materials stronger than wood, nor for pieces, branches or trunks larger than the above mentioned diameter.
*Our knives can be used for cutting and carving materials less than or as strong as wood. They are not suitable for knife throwing and should not be used for materials stronger than wood. They should not be used to pierce material using the tip.
*Our bottle openers are only intended for opening bottles with caps.
