Description

Through the design of a tempered steel knife and its handle on silk, you will discover Knifemaking and many of its basic techniques. Whether you're used to working with your hands or not, our blacksmith-trainers will teach you all you need to know about Knifemaking : from forging the blade to creating a wooden handle, including the theory of metals and tempering! At the end of workshop, you'll go home with your own knife!

Prerequisite: none

Durée : deux jours, de 9h à 17h ou deux soirs de semaine, de 18h à 22h. 

Age : For all participants aged 16 or 17an accompanying adult must take part in the activity with the minor, for the duration of the activity. The accompanying adult must pay for his/her own seat on workshop. Participants aged 18 and over may participate alone.

Cost: $650 + taxes

Other details: Bring a lunch and a bottle of water; a fridge and a microwave will be available. Please wear natural clothing (jeans, cotton...) and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. All tools will be provided on site.

Goals and creation :

  • Familiarize yourself with the shop and safety rules

  • Learn how to maintain the blacksmith's fire, how to handle tools and how to have the right reflexes when moving around the shop

  • Experiment with traditional Knifemakingtechniques (sharpening, drawing, reshaping, pointing, disgorging, hot slicing, quenching, stress relieving, etc.)

  • Creation of a sharpened tempered steel knife with a wooden handle.
